Legislating Morality is Impossible

I think it’s really sad that so many people try to legislate morality all the time. It’s wrong and impossible. Note that not everyone really wants to make all immoral things against the law. They make it up as they go.

If it was really about making immoral things against the law, then we would be legislating everything from humility to clean rooms, etc. What, then, could be the standard for legislating morality? Even the most ardent conservative doesn’t believe in across the board legislating morality.

Well, it’s pretty simple. They make it up as they go. It can’t be because there is a public interest in banning pornography. It’s impossible not to lust with or without pornography. Same for homosexuality. Locking gay people up in prison will just give them more opportunity to have lots of gay sex.

In the end we have to recognize why it is wrong to legislate morality and legislating morality should be given up. It doesn’t work and it’s counter productive.
